What Conditions May Qualify

Social Security maintains a wide listing of impairments, but a “listed” condition isn’t required to qualify. What counts is the degree to which your condition keeps you from working.

Many Conditions, One Standard

Qualifying conditions reach nearly every system of the body. What ties them together is severity: your impairment, or combination of impairments, has to keep you from substantial work.

  • Musculoskeletal disorders, back, joint, and spine conditions.
  • Cardiovascular and respiratory conditions.
  • Neurological disorders, including epilepsy, MS, and Parkinson’s.
  • Mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
  • Cancers and immune system disorders.
  • Chronic pain, autoimmune, and other long-term illnesses.
